Sphenopalatine ganglion blocks

Background

  • “Sphenopalatine Ganglion” is bundle of nerve cells which lies deep within your face, toward the back of the nose and is often involved in headache disorders.

  • Can be used to diagnose or to treat problems linked to nerves such as cluster headache, migraine, shingles, cancer of the head or neck, facial pain, etc.

Procedure

  • A small tube is placed through the nostril to drip a local anesthetic agent over the bundle of nerves.

  • Pain relief can last for days to weeks.
