Botox For Migraines

BACKGROUND

  • Migraine headaches often have a genetic component but can also be the result of physical, emotional, hormonal, or environmental triggers that can affect the chemicals and nerve communication in your brain.

  • Some people experience chronic migraine headaches, defined as more than fifteen headache days per month over a three month period.

PROCEDURE

  • Botox (purified form of botulinum toxin) temporarily reduces muscle contractions which can lead to fewer migraines.

  • The procedure involves injecting very small amounts of Botox into multiple sites in the forehead, scalp, and back of the neck. Migraine relief usually lasts for 3 months.
