Botox For Migraines
BACKGROUND
Migraine headaches often have a genetic component but can also be the result of physical, emotional, hormonal, or environmental triggers that can affect the chemicals and nerve communication in your brain.
Some people experience chronic migraine headaches, defined as more than fifteen headache days per month over a three month period.
PROCEDURE
Botox (purified form of botulinum toxin) temporarily reduces muscle contractions which can lead to fewer migraines.
The procedure involves injecting very small amounts of Botox into multiple sites in the forehead, scalp, and back of the neck. Migraine relief usually lasts for 3 months.
