Genicular Nerve Blocks
BACKGROUND
Genicular Nerves are sensory nerves which transmit pain signals from the knee.
Serves patients with chronic knee pain secondary to osteoarthritis, patients with failed knee replacement, patients unfit for knee replacements, or patients who want to avoid knee surgery
PROCEDURE
Genicular Nerve blocks are an outpatient procedure which involves x-ray guided injections of anesthetic to the three genicular nerves in order to numb the pain signals.
Can provide temporary pain relief.
This is typically used as a diagnostic test to determine if genicular nerve radiofrequency ablation will provide long term relief.
